Horse-drawn carriages have a nostalgic feel, especially around the holidays. Bridger Medlin and his horses at Southern Breezes Carriages help provide that vibe all across the southeast.
Trotting down a country road in Union County is helping Wyatt get ready for the Christmas season. He is one of about 30 horses that will be taking passengers on rides over the next month.
“There’s a lot of prep time. It takes months and months to get everyone ready, to get these guys tuned up and ready to go,” Medlin said.
Over the next month or so, people at more than 300 events will ride one of the Southern Breezes Carriages. From the Billy Graham Library to Winterfest at Carowinds, it’s a lot to get organized.
And while the horses will work a lot in the next month, they will still get plenty of downtime on the farm.
All of that prep and the time on and off for the horses help ensure a memorable experience for people when they ride.
A Hallmark feel that Medlin and his horses love providing.
“It’s a blessing. Because if you ever got into this business for the money, you’ve chosen poorly. You’ve got to do it for a love of horses. This is definitely a labor of love,” he said.
