American Hockey League canceled the season. Here's what the Checkers had to say about it
The American Hockey League announced it is canceling the remainder of the season. That means the Calder Cup playoffs will not happen this year. How does that sit with the Charlotte Checkers? Paul Branecky, Vice President of Marketing for the Checkers, joined the QC@3 team to break it all down. Paul says the news comes as a big disappointment, but the decision was not unexpected. During the Checker’s last game on March 11 , the sports landscape was beginning to change. The team had a hunch the pandemic could forestall the season. Paul says, given social distancing guidelines, the top priority is safety – for fans and players, alike. Players have been working out independently and preparing for an eventual return to hockey.
