Just days after beating high-profile, celebrity Chef Gordan Ramsay in a cooking showdown, the award-winning Chef William Dissen stopped by the QC Kitchen to tell us all about his experience and made a dish we could try.
The competition happened on the Fourth of July episode of National Geographic’s “Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted.”
The competition was filmed in the North Carolina mountains, providing a beautiful backdrop. Dissen started working in the kitchen at age fifteen and hasn’t looked back since.
Chef Dissen is the owner of several restaurants in North Carolina, including The Market Place Restaurant and Lounge, Haymaker in Charlotte, and Billy D’s Fried Chicken.
He says he loves to leave fans on the edge of their seats when they taste his food. He’s also loving the fact that he now has bragging rights against Chef Ramsay!
On QC@3, Chef Dissen made wild mushroom toast.
To make the toast, he started by cooking the mushrooms with bourbon and other ingredients. To use as the base he brought homemade sourdough bread, which took two days to make. Then, simple enough, he placed the delicious mushrooms on top of the toast. Both Cheryl Brayboy and Dedrick Russell say they enjoyed what they tried!
To top off the win of the competition and making the dish, he shared that Chef Ramsay was impressed with his skills. Ramsay even called him “one of the best chefs in the country and one of the most sustainable chefs on the planet.”
