You’ve probably seen the commercials, gotten the notices in your mail. The census is being conducted this year. And responding to it is more important than you might think.
- Just under 84 percent of households in North Carolina have been counted.
- In South Carolina, 82.4 percent of households have been counted.
- Both are under the national average of 89.4 percent.
- In order to get an accurate and complete count, the census bureau estimated it will need to visit 56 million addresses across the country.
The count is set to end on September 30th. Michael Cook joined us on QC Morning to tell us why filling out this census matters. Michael tells us time is running out to fill out the 2020 census. He asks if a census taker knocks on your door to be kind to them. He says it will only take a few minutes to answer their questions, but your response will stick with your community for the next 10 years. Michael says there are two important reasons to fill out this census, federal funding and it is used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.
