High School Students Help Organize Blood Drive in Honor of Family Friend

Blood donations are needed right now more than ever due to COVID-19

Two local high school students, Cross Canady of Charlotte Latin and Emsley Jones of Myers Park, wanted to  help a family friend suffering from bone marrow cancer.  They decided to hold a neighborhood blood drive through OneBlood.  OneBlood parked its Big Red Bus in Cross’ driveway. Emsley and Cross called family and friends to donate.  They were able sign up using One Blood’s online sign up mechanism.  On the day of the blood drive, dozens of people showed up, including individuals who had not signed up online.  Everyone was able to  donate blood on site.  OneBlood’s Pat Michaels says blood donation is a dire need, and he calls the effort by Cross and Emsley incredible.  Pat hopes others in the community will follow suit, and host a neighborhood blood drive during the pandemic.
