What is your favorite big cat?
Today is International Tiger Day. According to the World Wildlife Foundation, there are an estimated 39 hundred tigers living in the wild around the world. Tiger populations are increasing in many countries such as India, Nepal, Russia, and China. However, in Southeast Asia, the numbers are still declining. And for that reason, tigers are an endangered species. Aubrey Taylor is an animal behaviorist at Tiger World in Rockwell up in Rowan County. She joined us on QC Morning to talk about why this day is so special and how Tiger World is helping these big cats stay alive. Aubrey says this day is important because it raises awareness for tiger conservation. She tells us it is so important to save these endangered species out in the wild and it is their job as animal care professionals to spread awareness, so people can learn about these species, so they can protect them.
Tiger World is open full-time, every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except on Wednesdays.
