Kids and the COVID vaccine

Have you received the COVID vaccine? As more and more people get vaccinated, one group that isn’t on any of the priority lists is children. So why not? Do they even need the vaccine? To answer these questions, Mary got a chance to sit down with Dr. Amina Ahmed is a Pediatric infectious disease expert and epidemiologist at Atrium Health Levine Children’s hospital. Dr. Ahmed tells us the main reason children have not been considered for the vaccine is that more research needs to be done. She says trials are about to start to ensure the vaccine will be safe and effective for children. Dr. Ahmed says they need these trials for the data to understand the dosage amount, so they can deliver the vaccine safely.
