Kids Craft Friday: Mason Jar Piggy Banks

For this week’s Kids Craft Friday…we’re helping the kids save money! All you need to make some piggy banks is some mason jars and paint.

      • Mason jars
      • Acrylic paint
      • Paint brushes
      • Scissors
      • Stock paper or cardboard

            • Prep your mason jars by painting the mason jars and lids. You can use whatever base color you want. You need to do at least 3 coats. Let them dry for several hours before going to the next coat or the paint will peel off.
            • Once your jars are painted with the base color, paint whatever design you want!
            • Remove the center of the mason jar lid.
            • Trace it on a piece of stock paper or cardboard and cut out the circle.
            • Cut out a rectangle large enough to put coins or folded bills through.
            • Put into the lid and secure on top.
            • Apply a coat of mod podge when you’re done to protect it from getting damaged.
            • Finally – start saving that money!

*You can use a hot glue gun to add things like pom poms, googly eyes or pipe cleaners.
*If you can access to a laminator or laminating pockets, consider laminating the stock paper for your lid. That will help keep it from tearing, but it’s easy to remake one whenever you need!
