We all have those recipes that have become special for our family. In Kristen Hampton’s family…it’s her Uncle Ryo’s BBQ sauce.
Ryo Okazaki served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a purple heart recipient. He later worked at the same television station as Kristen’s Nana. Eventually he started coming to family dinners…and he became a member of the family.
Kristen’s family now keeps his memory alive with his BBQ sauce recipe. And it’s easy to make!
- 3 cups soy sauce
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 5 tablespoons fresh grated ginger
- 2 cups red wine
- 14 oz can of pineapple
- Put everything in the blender to mix it…that’s it!
- Pour over thinly sliced beef or chicken and let set for 24 hours
- Cook on the grill using a grill pan
