Tips on helping your child transition back into the school year.
The start of the new school year can be stressful for students during a normal year. This year with everything that is going on, so many changes and so many questions, the anxiety can really take a toll on their mental health. To help you and your child with this transition, we sat down to talk with Dr. Larry Mitnaul. He is an American Heart Association volunteer, as well as a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist. Dr. Larry says many of our kids may not be social and mentally ready to be thrown back into all of the academic rigorous school. He says it’s important for parents to take a pause and understand that this is going to be a process. He also says parents shouldn’t be afraid to ask their kids about how they’re feeling about the school year. You should ask what they’re looking forward to, but also about their fears. Talking is key.
