Nonprofit Community Cinema Plans To Open In 2021

Movie Lovers Unite!

The Charlotte Film Society plans to open a new non-profit community cinema in 2021 in Charlotte North Davidson community. You might remember earlier this month, we took you inside the Manor Theater. It closed recently after 73 years. The closure was a hit to foreign and independent films in the Queen City.

A fundraising campaign is now underway to open a 3-screen cinema that will serve as the new home for those foreign and independent films. Just take a look at these renderings by Flywheel Group. The hope is to also be a space for local and regional filmmakers, film festivals, and sort of a cultural hub for the community.

QC Life got a first look inside the new space. It’s on Raleigh Street, near East Sugar Creek Road in NoDa. It’s called the Trailhead Arts District and it’s next to the Sugar Creek stop on the LYNX Blue line. The Charlotte Film Society hopes this cinema can become a destination.

The goal is to raise 150 thousand dollars. You can donate, here!
