Going over the edge for Gigi's Playhouse
Dr. Jessica Allen, Founding Director of GiGi’s Playhouse Charlotte stopped by our QC Morning studio Wednesday. She brought with her a few friends: Lindsy Maners and her 11 year old son, Branson. All three guests share insight about GiGi’s Playhouse, a non-profit organization based in Charlotte that provides programs for the Down’s syndrome community. Branson shares his enthusiasm for GiGi’s Kitchen, where he learned to cook one of his favorite dishes: chicken and rice. The programs range from educational programs to career development. Jessica, who is also the mother of a child with Down’s syndrome, indicates that part of the mission of GiGi’s Playhouse is to break down social barriers and change the way the world sees and understands individuals with Down’s syndrome. She says the main objective of GiGi’s #GenerationG campaign is to foster acceptance and hope in the global community.
To commemorate World Down’s Syndrome Day, Lindsy reminds everyone to join her, Bransen, and Lindsy for Over the Edge Charlotte. It’s a unique way for corporate and community teams to support the efforts of GiGi’s Playhouse Charlotte while indulging in a new adventure. Teams are invited to rappel down Hyatt House in Uptown Charlotte! Each team commits to donating at least $1,000 to GiGi’s Playhouse. Over the Edge Charlotte is scheduled for March 20th, 2020.
