Protecting Your Kids From Brain Injury

Daniel Pietrzak shares important advice to keep in mind, to help protect your kids this summer.

Summer is in full swing, and whether your kids are riding their bikes or cooling off at the pool, the most important thing is that they’re safe. Daniel Pietrzak is the executive director of The Brain Injury Association of North Carolina. He shared some great advice on how to protect your kids from brain injuries this summer. One of the first places people are running to this summer is the pool. Daniel says families have been cooped up for a couple of months and they’re ready to get out and have some fun, but you should always stay diligent. He says first things first, no running around the pool. Your child could easy fall and hit their head. He said they also look at drowning, or near drowning experiences which can cause anoxic brain injury, this can have long term impacts on your child’s life. He advises against diving into shallow water. Daniel also says it’s important to remember to wear helmets when riding a bike or scooter.
