The Story Behind Hot Dog Food Truck “A Worthy Dog”

We found a hot dog food truck in the QC that brings the smoky flavors of the summer picnic to your neighborhood.

Derrick Worthy bought a hot dog truck a few years back, after hip replacement surgery. Now, business is booming for A Worthy Dog, which serves all beef hot dogs grilled to order. Derrick says the  savory taste gets a boost from a technique he calls spiraling. He cuts each dog to promote faster grilling. The true magic happens once the dog hits the bun. Derrick piles on the special toppings.  The most popular item not he menu is the Carolina Dog – piled with chili, onions, and cole slaw, plus a four blend cheese. Another favorite –  the Snoop Dog, topped with relish, coleslaw, and onion. Worthy Dog lovers also line up for the Island Dog, topped with salsa.

While Derrick is a gourmet hot dog chef by day, he is a musician by night.  He plays a mean jazz piano.  Derrick says music was his first love.  He offers a moment of thanks to his elementary school music teacher, Jeanne Brayboy.   As it turns out, Jeanne Brayboy is the mother-in law of the QC@3 co-host/reporter on the story: Cheryl Brayboy. It was a big surprise to everyone involved. Jeanne says Derrick’s success makes her proud.
