Like it does so often – social media has given the west a craving for the eastern taste of Boba Tea.
“With TikTok, there have been a ton of kids saying ‘I gotta get the bubble tea’,” manager of Sharetea, Starlette Watson said.
Even if you didn’t know what it was called – you’ve probably seen boba tea. It started in Taiwan in the ’80s.
“I feel like everyone should have a chance to taste authentic boba tea,” Boba Baba Cafe’s Kevin Liu said.
In its most basic form – it is tea – usually cold – with tapioca balls in the bottom of the cup.

The bubbles – as they are sometimes called can also be made with different kinds of jelly.
At Boba Baba Cafe in South End, they do fruit teas, sure – but their more popular drinks start with milk sourced from a local farm.
“It is usually a milk tea, source eas from Asia,” Liu said.
Careful attention to detail is paid, to give the authentic flavor of walking around a night market in Taiwan with your tea.
Not too far away in Plaza Midwood – the team at ShareTea is doing it for the ‘gram.

They tell us they sell thousands of grams of these boba bubbles every day – but they also put plenty of other things in their yummy fruit teas – like pudding and ice cream.
Watson had some advice if you’re thinking of dipping into the boba tea pool.
“People come in open…for the folks who don’t…get a fruit tea and add the boba,” she says.
