Lung cancer is actually the third most common cancer in the United States and one of the deadliest.
The American Cancer Society estimates more than 235,000 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed in 2021, with more than 131,000 deaths.
In North Carolina, more than 4,700 lives will be lost to the disease.
