CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - It’s an important time for Catholics worldwide as QC@3′s Dedrick Russell shows us another way people lean on faith to keep them in a good place.
Wednesday was the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a holy day of obligation when Catholics are expected to attend mass.
It marks the moment Mary’s mother became pregnant with Mary - free of original sin. A special mass this week honored Mary who became the mother of Jesus.
Catholics say it’s a big deal that God chose Mary to give birth to Jesus, and they believe that’s cause for celebration.
Bishop Peter Jugis told parishioners to be like Mary in patience, perseverance, and faith through the hardships of the pandemic.

Monsigner Patrick Winslow at St. Mark’s Catholic Church talked about the divine connection of this feast of the Immaculate Conception.
“One of the first things we do with the feast is we pray - we celebrate the mass where we listen to scripture and then we offer the most Holy Eucharist - the Lord’s Supper. Then outside of the mass and outside of these prayers we actually do what feasting sounds like we have great food we have time with our families and your friends you simply enjoy one another,” Monsigner Winslow said. “These feasts are important to the family of faith and we can’t imagine our life without celebrating - they are important they are part of the depth and the richness of who we are and what we believe.”
All different cultures celebrate this day.
This weekend, Latino Catholics will celebrate Feast of our Lady Guadalupe - another name for Mary. This honors the time Mary appeared in in Mexico.
