WBTV Studio — CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Author Vanessa Miller’s 54th book is “The American Queen,” a historical fiction novel that is set between 1865 and 1886 and is based on real-life events and people.
It follows Louella, a resilient black woman on her journey to the Appalachian Mountains where she builds and rules over the only known kingdom, built on American soil, the self-proclaimed “Kingdom of the Happy Land.”
According to Miller, crafting a historical fiction story like this one requires a lot of research especially because she wanted to honor these people by staying as close to the real story as possible.
Miller is a prolific writer and best-selling author with several books appearing on ESSENCE Magazine’s Bestseller List and “The American Queen” has already earned numerous positive reviews.
She dropped by the QC Life studio to talk more about her latest work.
