WBTV Studio — CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Southern Living Magazine has recently published a list of legendary restaurants, and our QC’s Alexander Michael’s Restaurant & Tavern is on it.
Our Brian Stephenson came by the restaurant to talk to Alexander Michael’s Owner, Steve Casner, and customers about why they think Al Mike’s has stood the test of time, as locals affectionately call it.
However, the history of the restaurant is not the sole reason for its legendary status. According to Stephenson, Al Mike’s is located inside the oldest standing building in the Queen City, which served as “The Berryhill Store” for many years until the 1960′s.
Renovated in the 1970′s, it was first reopened as a neighborhood store & deli before it was turned into the Al Mike’s Restaurant and Tavern we know and love by original owners A. Michael Troiano Jr. & Alexander Copeland III in January of 1983.
Casner said he attributes the restaurant’s success to their consistent menu, home-cooked food, and quality ingredients. They offer separate dinner and lunch menus, including salads, sandwiches, burgers, and more.

Joe, a regular customer at Al Mike’s, said he particularly appreciates the lovely atmosphere and that the staff always makes him feel welcome and taken care of.
For Casner, the people who dine and work at his restaurant are not just customers and employees but a part of his family.
