Consulting a tutor to help your kids thrive in Elementary school Addressing academic problems early on is key, according to Primary Focus.

WBTV Studio — CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Primary Focus’s mission is to equip parents with the tools to help their children thrive and recognize when they require support outside of what they as parents can provide.

Natalie Parmenter, the founder of “Primary Focus: The Parent’s Guide to Elementary School,” stopped by the QC Life studio to talk about her own experiences as a former elementary school teacher and shared some valuable advice on how parents can determine if their child needs a tutor.

Parmenter said she created the organization to help parents of children aged 4 to 11 identify their kids’ weak spots and solve problems they might experience in the classroom.

According to Parmenter, parents must act as soon as possible, more specifically when their kids are in kindergarten or first grade, if they see their kids struggle with foundational skills. She said it is a lot harder to catch up as they move on to later grades, so consulting a tutor early on can often make all the difference.

Parmenter shared with us three signs parents should look out for to determine whether their children need tutoring:

  • Your child needs academic support
  • Homework is hurting your relationship with your child
  • Your child needs enrichment or a mentor

Whether your child’s grades have dropped, the refusal to do their homework starts to put a strain on your relationship with them or they are advanced in a certain topic and could use a mentor, Primary Focus can help you tackle these issues.

Parmenter also supports parents who can’t afford a tutor or like to work with their children one-on-one by putting together learning plans.
