CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Not just a party but a party with purpose!
For 10 years, the UNCF Charlotte has been organizing the annual Mayor’s Masked Ball to bring attention to the importance of a college education and support primarily Black colleges and universities in the state.
This year’s festivities will take place at the Charlotte Convention Center on Sat, Mar. 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Tiffany Jones-Boyd, the area development director and Natia S. Walker, the development director of UNCF joined the show today to tell us more about the upcoming social event.
According to Jones-Boyd, the goal of this year’s fundraising gala is to raise a minimum of one million unrestricted dollars for deserving NC college students.

Attendees are required to adhere to a formal dress code; women must wear a gown and men a tuxedo and all guests are encouraged to put on sneakers to round off the look.
The event will also feature several special guests and honorees, including Fantasia Barrino Taylor, a singer-songwriter and actress, who will be awarded the ‘Masked Lifetime Achievement’.
Artist, DJ and philanthropist, Derrick T. Jones will be honored as the ‘Masked Hero’.
And Nicole and David Tepper, the owners of the Carolina Panthers will receive the ‘Masked Award’ alongside Fred Whitfield, the immediate past president & vice president of Hornets Sports & Entertainment.
Tickets start at $300 and are available here. But make sure to purchase them quickly because prices will increase the more tickets are sold and the sale ends on Fri, Mar. 15.

According to Walker, there are different ways to contribute to their mission, including donating directly to their scholarship funds, the ‘Gantt-McColl and Keith and Serena Cockrell Scholarship programs.
