Scruggs, a Cleveland County native, rose to fame in the 1940′s as the most influential banjo player of all times. He invented a 3-finger banjo technique of playing a 5-string banjo, which was imitated countless times and is now widely known as the “Scruggs Style.”
The event was brought to life by the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby in cooperation with WNCW-FM radio, the flagship roots music public station of Isothermal Community College.
It’s the festival’s third anniversary, and this year, it is held at the Tyron International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring on Labor Day Weekend from Aug. 30 to Sep. 1.
