Keeping your desk clean & organized with Simply Dare Kenzie Harkey shared their paper organization guide with us.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - POV - A regular Friday at the office: Dozens of files are piling up on our desks until we spend more time looking for missing documents than doing actual work.

Sounds familiar?

Well, we’ve all been there. That’s why we invited Kenzie Harkey, the founder of Simply Dare to the studio to share some tips on how to create a clean and organized office environment.

According to Harkey, the first step should be to set up an incoming paper system, using letter trays or magazine files to label and categorize papers and mail.

She recommends the following categories:

  • Current papers
  • To Do - for bills, invitations, etc.
  • File Away - For documents that need to be filed or kept.
  • Documents that don’t fit either of these categories should be tossed or recycled.

Harkey also put together a list of products that help with cord management.

  • Hiding the cord box under desk to reduce visual clutter of cords.
  • Using cord ties to wrap the cords when storing them away to keep the cords from getting tangled.
  • Utilizing a label maker to label each cord. This helps if other people are using cords, so they know what to look for and helps you locate them easier. It’s especially helpful if the cords are plugged into a TV or computer, so you can easily tell what the cord is.
  • Storing cords in divided bins or separate mesh pouches with labels by type, e.g. all the HDMI cords together, chargers together, etc.
