CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Managing money can be daunting, stressful, and boring, especially if you’re not particularly savvy when it comes to financial matters.
The good news is that you don’t have to tackle these issues all by yourself.
Today’s guest, Shane Tenney, a certified financial planner (CFP) with Spaugh Dameron Tenney, encouraged us to hire a financial planner and gave us some tips on how to prepare for that meeting.

“Research shows over and over that people who work with a certified financial planner feel twice as confident about their financial security as those who are doing it alone,” Tenney said.
According to the CFP, many people might refrain from seeking help from a financial professional because they are afraid of or embarrassed to discuss these matters with a stranger.

“We know that, we try to make it easy, and we want everybody to feel comfortable and we’re going to help you find a way to get where you want to go,” Tenney said.
He recommended making a list of financial goals, questions and concerns as well as talking with partners or spouses ahead of the meeting.
“The more information you can provide the experts with about your current financial situation, the better,” Tenney said.
He, therefore, advised sharing details about your income, expenses, savings, investments, debts and more with the CFP so that they can serve you to the best of their abilities.
Lastly, Tenney warned us not to try any last-minute fixes or splurges before meeting with a financial advisor because chances are, you might put yourself in an even more precarious position.

“If you want to go on a vacation, or buy a boat, bring that goal to them [CFP] and let them counsel you on how to get there,” he said.
