CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - The 2024 solar eclipse is rapidly approaching! On Mon, April 8, the Moon will block 80% of the face of the Sun in the Charlotte area.
Candice Jordan, the head of education at the Schiele Museum came by the Outdoor studio to break the unique phenomenon down for us, give us some eye safety instructions and tell us about some fun events that are happening at the museum this weekend.

According to Jordan, a total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth and completely blocks the face of the Sun.
However, the Charlotte area will not experience a total solar eclipse since the Moon will only hide 80% of the Sun, creating a crescent of it.
Jordan said the Schiele Museum is selling solar-safe eclipse viewing glasses for $3 each throughout the’ Solar Eclipse Weekend’ to ensure people are taking the necessary steps to protect their eyes.

In addition to that, visitors can come by and observe the rare phenomenon next Monday, April 8, at 3:11 p.m. at the museum as well as participate in numerous solar-eclipse themed activities from Saturday, April 6 to Mon, April 8.
According to the expert, attendees can enjoy solar eclipse-themed ice cream samples from Jeni’s Ice Cream on Monday and chat with astronomy experts about all things Sun and Moon.
Most activities are included in the museum admission price, but planetarium programs require an additional payment of $5 per person.
