CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - You’ve certainly seen it pop up on your Instagram feed, on TV or maybe you even grab one before you go to work.

But what makes the Açaí fruit so special?

QC Life’s Kristen Miranda joined John and Matt Williams, the owners of Rico’s Açaí at their food truck today to uncover the secret behind açaí berries, commonly known as nature’s ‘purple gold’.

They also made two of their signature bowls, the ‘Rainbow Bowl’ and the ‘Açaí Lover’s Bowl’ for us, mixing different fruits, Açaí Puree, granola and potentially Nutella and peanut butter.

Rico’s Açaí has been operating for nearly nine years; they started selling their Açaí bowls out of a food truck, a concept that became especially popular during COVID.

For one it was one of a few businesses that was able to provide customers with fresh produce without having hand-to-hand contact during the pandemic.

In addition to that, the demand for Açaí surged after COVID since more people were concerned about staying in good health and shape.

Since then, the family-owned business has grown substantially, allowing them to open four locations in the Charlotte area, including Plaza Midwood, Ballantyne, Belmont, and Cornelius.

They currently offer five signature bowls, and they recently added the Açaí Lover’s Menu, for guests to customize their bowls.
