CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - It started as an experiment but now it’s here to stay: the VAPA Center is sticking around for at least another 5 years.
Last week, the VAPA Center announced that Mecklenburg County had extended VAPA’s lease by five years, adding longevity to this once-experimental space for creatives. The county is also going to conduct $1.7 million in needed renovations to the facility.
VAPA is no longer an experiment. It is a necessary and vital part of the creative life of Charlotte.
In March of 2022, Arthur Rogers Jr., his wife JoAnne (of the Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery) and a team of dedicated creatives and organizations opened VAPA on North Tryon Street, converting the Hal Marshall Building into a home for artists, creatives and performers. The space had originally been a Sears store Uptown.
Earlier this year, VAPA received the Trailblazer Award at the annual Vision Awards.
