CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - The magical experience of Harry Potter is making its way to Charlotte in the form of a concert series.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Concert will be performed at The Belk Theater Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8 as part of the Harry Potter Film Concert Series.

Audiences will get to experience the film in a new way. The film will be displayed on a 40-foot screen and attendees will watch the movie while hearing John William’s score performed by the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra perform live.

In the first film in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter learns that he is the orphaned son of two wizards and has powers on his 11th birthday. Upon his discovery, Harry attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he learns about magic, the sport of Quidditch and the history of wizards.

The Harry Potter Film Concert Series, created by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment and CineConcerts, is the only official global concert tour celebrating the Harry Potter films. Since the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Concert in 2016, more than 3 million people have experienced the show. Now, those in Charlotte have the opportunity to experience it.

The concert will be conducted by Shih-Hung Young, a Chinese conductor and violinist from Taiwan born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who later came to the United States.

Young received his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music degrees from The Julliard School and a Doctorate of Music from State University of New York at Stony Brook. From 1995 to 2016, Young taught at The Julliard Pre-College Division.

Dr. Young has conducted many film concerts such as Howard Shore’s Academy Award-winning Lord of the Rings: Live to Projection Trilogy & Symphony, La La Land in Concert, a collaboration with Golden Globe winner Lisa Gerrard in Hans Zimmer’s Gladiator: Live, many of Disney’s Live-in-Concert productions such as collaborations with Lebo M. in Disney’s the Lion King Live, The Little Mermaid, Frozen and more.

As a conductor, Dr. Young has toured the United States and internationally and has collaborated with orchestras from different countries.

The Harry Potter Concert Film Series is scheduled to include nearly 3,000 performances across more than 48 countries through 2025.
