CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - A Juneteenth arts festival will take place on June 19 at the Shoppes at University Place Lakefront.

The festival, which will aim to educate others on the history and cultural significance of Juneteenth, will be held from 4 p.m.- 8 p.m.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States.

Cultural significance will be showcased through African American art exhibits, activities, live painting, food, music and live performances that attendees can enjoy and learn from.

Janeva Tyree, an artist and owner of Janeva Tyree LLC helped conceptualized the festival in response to community feedback of wanting artistic expression and cultural celebration.

As a member of the U-City Collective, Tyree has led efforts to implement public art in underserved places such as the University of North Carolina Charlotte Botanical Gardens with “Art in the Gardens.”

Today, Tyree joined our show to display some of her artwork and what it means. Also joining us is CEO and President of University City Partners Keith Stanley, to provide information about the festival.

This is one of many community-building events that UCP has been responsible for.
