CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Many people love watching football, but some are not as thrilled about the idea of their kids playing.

According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association, youth participation in tackle football has fallen 17% since 2006. Flag football, though, has shown an increase in participation.

Hitting the field with the USA women's flag football team QC Life's Jorge Andres turned back the clock on the gridiron this morning.

USA Football creates and leads national teams to represent the country in international competition. According to the organization, women and girls are driving the biggest growth in flag football. It is now a sanctioned varsity sport for high schools in 11 states, and many others have pilot programs.

In August, the United States’ women’s team will head to Finland for the World Championships.

QC Life’s Jorge Andres went out to Revolution Park in west Charlotte to learn more about the growth of flag football.
