CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - The summer is not only the time for relaxation, but it’s for excitement as well. For girls ages 4-18, Project Scientist is offering some opportunities to make their summer exciting through STEAM experiments.

Project Scientist is a nonprofit that educates others through things such as after-school and summer programs. The programs are focused around STEAM. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

The nonprofit is holding eight STEAM Lab summer programs, which focus on working with girls from underserved and marginalized communities to get them involved in the STEM world and to help close the gender and racial gaps in STEM.

Through their programs, Project Scientist’s goal is to both involve girls in STEM and to inspire them into knowing they can enjoy and be in a STEM career.

Jacki Lane, regional director at Project Scientist, joined our show to talk about the nonprofit and the STEAM labs and to share some science projects that one can do at home during this summer. Below are the projects and the materials needed. To follow along, view the segment above.
