CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - There’s nothing like summer days in Charlotte, check out what’s happening around the Queen City this weekend.
Disney’s The Lion King (Belk Theater), opening weekend: Come relive the “Circle of Life” in Disney’s smash-hit musical that continues to break box office records on Broadway. From the songs you love like “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” to the creative puppetry that has dazzled millions of audiences worldwide, Disney’s The Lion King is still the musical that roars above the rest. Now beginning its month-long residency here in Charlotte. Tickets start at $35.
Becoming the Sea Opening Celebration (Gantt Center), Friday 6 to 9 p.m.: Celebrate the opening of the Harvey B. Gantt Center’s newest exhibit as part of the Gantt Golden Year. Curator Dexter Wimberly, along with representatives from the Black Rock Global Arts Foundation, will be joining the celebration. Learn all about the 13 featured artists who spent two years at the Black Rock artist-in-residence program with works in painting, photography, video, sculpture and more. Admission to the celebration is free.
Flo Rida & Russell Dickerson (Carowinds), Friday & Saturday: The borderline theme park’s inaugural summer music fest continues with “My House” rap superstar Flo Rida on Friday and country pop crossover artist Russell Dickerson on Saturday. Admission to each show is included with valid daily admission to the park.
Southern Comforts Fiber Market (Oasis Shriners Auditorium), Friday & Saturday 10 a.m to 5 p.m.: Join a tight-knit community and find everything you need for knitting, crochet, weaving and spinning. You can find hard-to-find fibers, unique dyed yarns, plus all the tools you need to take your craft to the next level. Meet fellow crafters and get inspired. Admission is $5 per day or $8 for a weekend pass.

Brick Fest Live (Park Expo & Conference Center), Saturday & Sunday: If you’re a fan of LEGOS, get ready to be inspired. This hands-on festival is fun for everyone in the family with plenty of brick activities, life-size models of pop culture icons and plenty of entertainment including a meet-and-greet with LEGO Master Zack. Plus, it’s your once-in-a-lifetime chance to jump in a giant brick pit with over 200,000 bricks. Tickets start at $19.99
Nebel’s Alley Night Market (South End), Saturday 4 to 9 p.m.: Summers are for outdoor markets and this one’s a great place for shopping local. Here you’ll find everything from vintage clothes to unique plants and jewelry. You can hear live music while you shop and take a bite from one of South End’s famed eateries. Admission is free.
Brew & Choo Festival (NC Transportation Museum), Saturday 4 to 9 p.m.: All aboard for a good time of rockin’ music and crisp craft beers. Sample local favorites from some of your favorite breweries like New Sarum. Tobacco Wood, Four Saints Brewing and so much more. Enhance your experience with a train ride where you can meet brewers on board to talk about the beers. There’s fun for the whole family, too with lawn games, inflatables and a magician. Admission is $8 for adults 21 and over, free for 20 and under. Upgrades available for train rides and beer samples.
Benefit Bash with B Sharp Band for Lee Institute (Duke Mansion), Saturday 7:30 to 10 p.m.: Celebrate the summer while supporting a great cause. Rock out to the music of Tom Petty with B Sharp inside the historic Duke Mansion while enjoying an open bar and Duke Mansion snacks. Proceeds benefit the Lee Institute. Tickets are $75 each.
Charlotte Comicon (Embassy Suites Concord), Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Comic and pop culture enthusiasts unite for an action-packed day of trading and selling everything from new and vintage comics, toys, actions figures and more. Show off your best cosplay and enter to win a cash prize. Admission is $5 at the door.
