CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A Charlotte native is bringing a bigger meaning to an open water swim happening this month across the pond.

Cancer survivor and Charlotte native Julia Brookshire is preparing to swim the world’s oldest open water swim on Aug. 30 called the Hellespont and Dardanelles Swim. The historic cross-continental swim takes swimmers from the Asian side of Turkey to the European side of Turkey.
