CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - For National Responsible Dog Ownership Day, we’re joined by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Animal Care & Control Communications Manager Melissa Knicely!

The day is celebrated September 21 and this year, the animal shelter is partnering with Veterinary Emergency Group for a free microchip clinic for Mecklenburg County pets.

The clinic will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the main shelter. That’s located at 8315 Byrum Drive.

Responsible pet ownership extends far beyond microchipping pets; it includes other things like annual health exams, staying on top of vaccines, using an ID tag, and staying updated on flea and heartworm medications.

Animal Care and Control is in desperate need of adopters and fosters. For more information, visit them online, on Facebook, and Instagram.
