Charlotte Creative - Fear of Public Speaking

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Charlotte’s creative community is thriving, and few embody that spirit quite like Brian Lafontaine. A professional storyteller for over 25 years, Brian has left his mark as an actor, director, coach, and voiceover artist across multiple platforms, including film, television, theater, podcasts, corporate and event hosting, stand-up comedy, and improvisation. With roles in hit productions such as Ozark, Stranger Things, Outer Banks, Homeland, and The Hate U Give, Brian is one of the most successful actors to come out of Charlotte.

A Side Career with a Purpose

Beyond acting, Brian has built a side career as a speaking coach, leveraging his years of experience in performance to help individuals become confident and effective speakers. Recognizing a need in the community for a dedicated space to practice public speaking, Brian has created Speak Easy, a new monthly event series designed for speakers at all levels.

What is Speak Easy?

Launching on Wednesday, February 19, from 6-8 PM at VisArt Video, Speak Easy is a networking and rehearsal group for those interested in public speaking. Whether you are honing a keynote speech, practicing storytelling, or refining presentation skills, Speak Easy offers a supportive, creative environment with a live audience to provide feedback. For those not ready to take the stage, spectators are welcome to attend and observe until they are ready to participate. And, true to its name, beer, wine, and snacks will be available to make the experience both productive and enjoyable.

A Community-Driven Initiative

Speak Easy was born out of community demand. After being approached by multiple individuals last year about starting a speaking-focused gathering, Brian knew Charlotte needed a space where speakers could rehearse, connect, and grow. Now, with Speak Easy, Charlotte’s aspiring and experienced speakers alike have a safe and engaging platform to sharpen their craft.
