CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - If you’re looking for a meaningful way to challenge yourself physically and give back, the Tunnel to Towers Stadium Climb in Charlotte might be just the thing.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the legacy of courage and heroism, supporting fallen and catastrophically injured first responders, military heroes, and their families. Each year, the organization hosts events across the country to raise funds and awareness, and one of the most unique is right here in Charlotte.
The Tunnel to Towers Stadium Climb is more than just a fitness challenge. It’s a tribute. Participants wind their way through the lower level of Bank of America Stadium, climbing stairs and pushing themselves physically before making a final dash through the same tunnel the Carolina Panthers use to storm the field. It’s an unforgettable finish that mirrors the bravery and determination the event is designed to honor.
We spoke with Race Director Joe LaPiana and Deputy Chief Chickery about what makes the Charlotte Climb so special.
“This event is not just about the climb. It’s about community, sacrifice, and remembrance,” Joe explains. “Every step taken is a step in honor of someone who gave their all for others.”

Deputy Chief Chickery shared how personal the event feels for those in uniform. “We see the impact of these tragedies firsthand. To know there’s a foundation that steps in to help families, to give them a home, to ease their burdens—it means everything,” he says.
The funds raised during the climb go directly toward supporting Tunnel to Towers’ many initiatives, including mortgage-free homes for Gold Star and fallen first responder families, smart homes for injured veterans, and disaster relief.
Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just someone looking for a powerful way to give back, the Tunnel to Towers Charlotte Climb offers a meaningful opportunity to do both.
