CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - The Savannah Bananas are in Charlotte—and they’re not just playing baseball, they’re putting on a show.
“We’ve been doing rehearsals for the last 48 hours, trying to make sure the show is great, because every night is a brand new show,” said a team member during pre-show preparations. With a stadium-sized setup and new surprises planned for each performance, the Bananas are focused on perfecting every detail.
Known for their viral antics and electric energy, the Bananas aren’t aiming to be the best baseball team—they’re aiming to be the best show in sports. “You’ve got to be obsessed with the actual entertainment,” one member explained. “Every single night, we’re doing 10 to 15 things we’ve never done before in front of a live crowd.”
Despite their massive popularity now, the Bananas’ roots trace back to humble beginnings. “People look at the Bananas and think it’s an overnight success… but we spent ten years in Gastonia with no media coverage, very few fans, and just learning how to make the game exciting and fun.”
Those early years were crucial to what the team has become today. “We learned from P.T. Barnum, Walt Disney, Cirque du Soleil, the Grateful Dead—we were just a sponge, learning how to create a great experience.”
