The Mission
Community Matters Cafe serves more than coffee and food... it’s a place to restore hope. The cafe
serves as an extension program of Charlotte Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization that provides
free, Christian-focused residential recovery services to men and women struggling with substance
abuse and homelessness.

Graduates of Charlotte Rescue Mission’s 120-day recovery program have the opportunity to
transition back into the community through the Community Matters Cafe Life Skills Program. This
6-month extension initiative addresses topics such as conflict resolution, expressing concerns, and
healthy ways to cope with conflict and stress all within both a classroom and restaurant setting.
During this time, the program covers all housing and transportation expenses.
By coming to Community Matters Cafe, you are doing so much more than getting a cup of coffee
and enjoying lunch. You are restoring hope in individuals who have lost their way in life because of
their addiction. You are reinforcing all of the essential life skills our students are learning and
showing them that they have a community that believes in their future.
