CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - CHARLOTTE — A senior living community has collected hundreds of pet care items for local animal shelters through a custom donation cart program.

Waltonwood Providence Marketing Manager Matt Swaney hand-built a “Bark Bar” cart to deliver treats and collect donations. Swaney works alongside Sheldon, his rescue dog who serves as the community’s official “Barktender”.

The cart hosts donation drive events and serves as a gathering spot for residents and their pets to socialize. This summer, the community collected more than 400 pet care items including food, treats, toys, bedding, bowls, leashes and peanut butter.

The community features an off-leash dog park and recently began supporting residents interested in fostering or adopting pets through its “Seniors Helping Seniors” initiative. The program promotes the benefits of pet companionship for older adults.

You can drop off pet donations to The Waltonwood on Providence the address is 11945 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC 28277
