CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - The Knothole Foundation teamed up with New Age Flag Football to host the first-ever flag football event at The Stick, bringing a new day of play and community support to Charlotte.

A Day of Play & Giving Back — the Queen City Showdown flag football tournament held Saturday, December 6 — welcomed hundreds of boys and girls from kindergarten through high school for a weekend of competition, fun, and community connection.

Tommy Viola, Chief Communications Officer for the Knothole Foundation, described the foundation as more than just games on the field.

In addition to giving kids the chance to play, the foundation provides educational programming, run food drives for families in Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools, and distributes equipment to underserved youth.

Those hands‑on efforts reflect Knothole’s core mission: increasing access and opportunity through sports, academic support, and life‑skills development.

Knothole’s programming spans baseball, softball, and now flag football — all designed to get kids active, build teamwork, and connect young athletes with mentors.

The Knothole Foundation continues to expand opportunities for underserved youth across the region — on the field and off.
