CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Gerry & Stephanie Romanelli, Owner of Hounds Town Indian Trail joined QC Life to share some helpful tips for our four-legged friends to stay safe and calm this holiday season.
- Maintain routine as much as possible
- Using calming aids can also help, if recommended by a vet.
- Create a “pet travel kit” ahead of trips to help with maintaining routines and providing familiarity
Keep in mind that holiday travel and gatherings can be overstimulating for pets with new people, loud noises, and lots of activity.
Unfortunately, our furry friends can’t always travel with us. Boarding your pet is a great way to ensure they get socialization and care while you’re away. Boarding facilities provide structured playtime, constant supervision, and a schedule that keeps pets engaged. This helps prevent separation anxiety and bad habits that can resurface when pets are left alone at home.
Make sure to pack essentials, including food, water, bowls, leashes, waste bags, travel carriers, medications, and vaccination records. No matter what option you choose, make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip information are up to date in case of emergencies.
If your dog has never been boarded before and you aren’t sure how they’ll respond to being away from you for multiple days, try short stays at daycare to get them used to being in a new environment before a long trip. At Hounds Town, pets are separated by size and temperament, making the transition easier.
