CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Fonda Bryant, mental health and suicide prevention advocate and founder of Wellness Action Recovery, Inc., joins QC Life to talk about the Charlotte Hornets Recovery Night and the growing conversation around mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention.
Fonda was honored at the Hornets Recovery Night and is a powerful example that no matter what someone is facing, they can come back from it, and they do not have to go through it alone. She emphasizes that mental health does not discriminate and can affect anyone, regardless of race, gender, or where they live.
Check in on friends and family, make the call, ask how they are doing, and be willing to truly listen. Sometimes a simple conversation can be the first step toward getting someone the support they need.
Fonda also offers suicide prevention training through the QPR method, which stands for Question, Persuade, Refer. The two-hour training is designed to be as practical as CPR, helping participants recognize warning signs of a mental health crisis, respond appropriately, and connect someone with help. She teaches these lifesaving skills to adults and youth, expanding the impact of prevention through education.
