CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Katia Zavistovski, curator at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, joins QC Life to share an exciting and rare addition to the museum’s permanent collection. The Uptown Charlotte landmark has acquired David McGee’s “Drum Call” a stunning watercolor that was a standout piece in the museum’s recent exhibition, “David McGee: The Griot and the Nightingale”.
A master storyteller, McGee utilizes “Drum Call” to weave together history, culture, and his own lived experience, inviting viewers to make their own personal connections. Standing at an impressive four feet tall, the large-scale watercolor also features poignant North Carolina historical references, highlighting an all-Black volunteer regiment that fought in the Civil War.
