CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Broadway and TV/Film actress Karen Culp joins QC Life to share her inspiring return to her hometown stage for Theatre Charlotte’s upcoming production of “Come From Away”.
Opening on September 11, 2026 - the 25th anniversary of 9/11 - this powerful Tony Award-winning musical launches the theatre’s historic 99th season. This powerful show tells the true story of 7,000 diverted airline passengers welcomed by the generous community of Gander, Newfoundland, focusing on the unexpected friendships and human connections born from tragedy.
To honor those lost on September 11th, Theatre Charlotte is partnering with the FF Steven Coakley Foundation, the organization behind the annual Flags of Remembrance installation at Romare Bearden Park.
Adding to the magic of the production is the homecoming of Charlotte native and Broadway actress Karen Culp. Having discovered her love for the stage during her very first musical at Theatre Charlotte in junior high, Karen returns home to play Captain Beverley Bass - the historic first female pilot for American Airlines, whose actual plane was grounded in Gander on that fateful day. Brought to life entirely by local actors, musicians, and volunteers, this community-driven production is a profound celebration of hope, resilience, and homecoming.
