Story of Hope for NICU Awareness Month

NICU Awareness Month

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - September marks National Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Awareness Month—a time dedicated to honoring the journeys of premature and medically fragile infants, supporting their families, and recognizing the healthcare professionals who care for them.

This month, a story of hope and resilience hits especially close to home. Station producer Jordan Sawyers and his wife, Bekah, know firsthand the strength required to navigate a prolonged NICU stay. On October 2, 2025, the couple welcomed their daughter, Carrie Catherine Sawyers, who arrived weighing just 1 pound, 4 ounces.

What followed was a 113-day journey in the neonatal intensive care unit at Novant Health Children’s Hospital. Supported around the clock by specialized medical staff and the steadfast love of her parents, Carrie overcame the odds and came home at the end of January of this year.
