CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - The Carolinas First Responder Alliance (CFRA) and the K9 Responder Foundation are teaming up at Bojangles Coliseum for “Pints, Pups and Heroes,” a free community event aimed at rallying support for the brave men and women on the front lines. The festivities are on Saturday, September 26th and will kick off at 9 a.m. with a free Warrior Boot Camp (9–10 a.m.) led by fitness instructors, encouraging attendees to break a sweat before staying for the party, pup meet-and-greets, and family-friendly fun. Co-founder and retired CMPD Captain Michelle Hummel, alongside Rick Dunton of the K9 Responder Foundation, are spearheading the gathering to break the stigma surrounding mental health and build direct pathways to critical wellness resources.
All funds raised during the event go directly toward connecting first responders with vetted, trauma-trained therapists specializing in the unique challenges public safety workers face, while also sponsoring training programs for clinicians to master culturally competent care modalities. Additionally, proceeds support the K9 Responder Foundation’s mission of placing trained therapy and service dogs with first responders in need —proven companions in healing from operational trauma.
Highlighting the morning’s impact is Aries, an eight-year-old mixed-breed pup with his own veteran ties. Originally belonging to an Army veteran and rescue founder who passed away without surviving family, Aries was at risk of being surrendered to a shelter before a Marine veteran neighbor stepped in, leading the K9 Responder Foundation to welcome Aries into their fold. Guests can meet Aries, connect with local heroes, and show their gratitude at Bojangles Coliseum.
