Before buying, research the seller and read customer reviews. Check the retailer’s BBB profile and make sure its website address, business name and contact information look legitimate. Be cautious of social media ads with unusually low prices, blurry images or spelling and grammar errors - scammers often use lookalike websites to promote popular, hard-to-find products.
Watch for unexpected messages about gifts, account problems or deliveries, and avoid clicking suspicious links. Check that a website uses HTTPS, keep track of your purchases and tracking numbers, and consider paying by credit card so you can dispute suspicious charges.
