CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Fraud in the U.S. has grown in recent years, with three out of four families reporting a fraudulent attempt by email, phone or social media — aided by AI and online technology.
Nationally, over $8 billion in scams have been reported — with many more going unreported. North Carolina is one of the top nine states for fraud, with nearly half a billion dollars lost.
Fraudsters are consistent in one tactic: they call, get aggressive, and try to scare you into dropping your guard. If it seems too good to be true or sounds odd, it probably is. If it feels strange, hang up and disengage.
In observance of National Cybersecurity Month, Fifth Third Bank is doing local outreach in Charlotte and other communities, with a focus on helping senior clients who are often targeted. The bank offers in-person and online education, plus Smart Shield fraud controls for online and mobile banking customers to help protect their money and achieve their financial goals.
