CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month — an opportunity to challenge stereotypes, encourage responsible pet ownership, and celebrate these often misunderstood dogs.
Rick Dunton, K9 Responder Foundation Founder and Trainer, joins QC Life with Herman, the Foundation spokesdog and proud pittie. Rick, a former firefighter and co-founder of the K9 Responder Foundation, is dedicated to supporting both people and animals. His nonprofit connects first responders and veterans experiencing PTSD with specially trained service dogs, providing obedience and task-specific training to help handlers build confidence, independence and emotional well-being on and off the job.
Rick is also advocating for rescue animals through his children’s book, “Mitch the Monster”. Inspired by rescue work, the story encourages readers to look beyond appearances, choose compassion over fear, and recognize every animal deserves a chance to be loved.
All proceeds from the book benefit Forgotten, Now Family Rescue, a local nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs, with a special focus on pit bulls and other bully breeds.
