Making a matcha cocktail with Dogwood’s new bar manager

You can find matcha-flavored foods just about anywhere … including at the bar.

Making a matcha cocktail with Dogwood's new bar manager Winter Voss returned to Dogwood as the bar manager in January.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - We’re talking a lot about matcha, but what is it?

It’s a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves in east Asia. The leaves are grown in the shade for three to four weeks before being harvested.

Traditionally, the powdered matcha is then used to make tea with either hot water or milk.

Over the last several years, matcha has become a very popular flavor in everything from specialty coffee drinks, to snacks and desserts. It has that distinctive green color.

Winter Voss is the new bar manager at Dogwood. She loves working with house-made syrups and infusions, giving complexity to the drinks.

She stopped by the QC Kitchen to show us how to make a “Tea Cleanse,” which includes matcha powder.

Here’s what you need to make it:

  • 2oz Roku gin
  • 2oz milk
  • .75oz vanilla simple syrup
  • .25oz mint liqueur
  • 1 tablespoon matcha powder
